I recieved the Transferer II and cards today (thanx Melody!).
There seems to be no problem with connecting, I only need some help with the software. The floppy provides me XLinker 5 (v1.05) and EMS GB Smart Writer v3.5. I cannot find any manuals on the diskette nor the website. Is it possible to provide them? :-)
Right now, I do encounter some problems. I'm going to test them and try to figure out what's wrong. I hope to give you a proper description of the problems :-) So far I get "priviledged instruction" message in the Smart Writer software (might be because I do not work under Administrator account?). And message "Invalid crda ID for upload". To my dismay, not much info to be found on this on the internet :-(

"Invalid crda ID for upload" <---- it seems that you were using the wrong program. You should use GB Smart Writer v3.5, which supports the GB 32M smart card and our Transferer II. This program works in windows 2k and XP. Here is the guide for GB Smart Writer v3.4. As the interface of 3.4 and 3.5 is the same, this guide may help you. Thank you for the quick reply. Do you have any suggestions for the "privileged instruction" message I get with the Smart Writer program? It loops and pops up every second and blocks me from using the program: the only way to exit is to press <enter> for each popped-up message and clicking on "quit" (or kill the process with task manager...). I still need to check whether this has to do with not running the program as Administrator. Also I noticed in the configuration files pathnames are stored which do not exist on my computer e.g. to delphi library directory. Has this file only been used for compiling the program? Or can I set some configuration for the program too? Lastly, I'm curious to know what is meant by the Card ID. I understand it's the wrong program, but I like to know why. Because in future I might want to use the Transferer also for GBA and 64Mb cards, so then the Xlinker program is suitable? Sorry for this big list of questions, but I want to use your product to it's full extent :-)

There are two version of GB Smart Writer v3.5. One is for windows 98 / ME, another one is for windows NT / 2k / XP. You were runing the GB Smart Writer v3.5 (98 / ME) on windows XP. Thus, "privileged instruction" message keeps popping up. Please donwload the GB Smart Writer v3.5 (NT / 2K / XP) from the link below : www.hkems.com/files/GBTF2-XPV3.5.exeQ : Also I noticed in the configuration files pathnames are stored which do not exist on my computer e.g. to delphi library directory. Has this file only been used for compiling the program? A : Yes Q : Or can I set some configuration for the program too? A : you could configurate the program via the program interface. Q : Lastly, I'm curious to know what is meant by the Card ID. A : GB smart card and GBA smart card has different ID, such that the program would know if the right card is being connected. Q : Because in future I might want to use the Transferer also for GBA and 64Mb cards, so then the Xlinker program is suitable? A : That's no problem at all, just remember to use the right program for the rigth smart card.

;D Well, I think we are getting somewhere.
The software looks stable, Led light on the Transferer II is: ->green when 'off', ->bright green when 'GB' and ->green when "GBA" is set.
Just noting this down fyi because I have " Error 452: connection problems ." message shown....
From another post I read a person had the same error but also problems with the led. I feel in my case the LED is shining correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong.
I've tried a few options in my bios concerning the parallel port but there are too many possibilities to go by them one by one and re-booting the system each time (takes about 10 minutes). So maybe it is possible to direct what settings should be ok (or which combination definitely is a no-go) to narrow the possibilities?
onboard parallel port: LPT1(378), LPT2(278/IRQ5), LPT3(3BC/IRQ7) Parrallel port : SPP, ECP, EPP or ECP+EPP ECP Mode using DMA: 3 or 1 EPP mode select : EPP1.7 or EPP1.9
A lot can be combined separately, so that's why it would take up so much time to go through all.
Do you maybe have the real, technical meaning of error 452? So I might be able to narrow down the problem to irq, dma, driver issues, power supply, broken cable?
Also, in what manner should I attach the Transferer to the computer when booting up? I suppose it should be connected at boot-up. Does a card have to be present? Does the switch has to be set to 'GB' or 'GBA' at boot-up or is "OFF' sufficient?
I'm sorry that I ask you so many questions, also some which do not directly relate to the problem. They come from my curious nature ^_^ I hope that other users might learn from your answers so you don't have to answer the same questions every time!
Thank you for your support, I'm very happy EMS takes time and effort in the aftercare of their products :-)

For your case, please test each of the parrallel port setting (SPP, ECP, EPP or ECP+EPP) , you should able to get it to work

Yes, I want to test the parallel port. :-) But the combinations are numerous. Could you tell me which configuration has highest change of being succesful? E.g. EPP1.9 over EPP1.7. So I can try these combinations first.

sOluTiON!!!!! Halfway though the first set of parallel port possibilities, the feeling that this wasn't the source of the problem became stronger. Then I realized I was trying to make it work as a normal user: what if I'd be logged on as administrator... And that seemed to be the issue ;D All works fine on whatever port setting I have: just need to run the program as administrator (shift+right click on the program, selecting "run as..." will do, no need for entirely logging on as administrator). Now the Transferer seems to be OK, I'll be checking out the possibilities ^_^ BTW: it seems that if everything is hooked up OK, but the Transferer unit is switched "off" when starting the Smart Writer program, also the 452 error message appears. Small suggestion/wish towards the software programmers: this error number is too generic. It will help if it is really telling something about the situation. :-) And adding the precondition that software must be run under administrator privileges will help too. Thanks for the support!

Please use the following program. www.hkems.com/files/GBSWE%20V3.5.zipIf it still shows "connection error", please visit the BIOS, and check if the parallel port setting is one of the followings: 1. EPP 2. ECP 3. ECP + EPP One of the above should works. If it doesn't work, please try another setting. Thanks

NT/2k/XP version also works on Windows 7, you must choose Windows XP (SP1 or SP2) compatibility mode and run it as Administrator.

I got a 452 error and ive tested my cartidge and the Parallel ports.
The game works fine and the GB transferer works with the green light, but the parallel cable seems bendy and maybe worn from the inside wiring. Is it possible that i need a new Printer port cable?
