Hi there,
I've got an EMS Topgun III since a couple of days and so far everything works okay for my needs. However, by browsing the web randomly I came up some message board where one user claimed that the laserpointer of the gun is for calibration purposes only, as the mere reflection of it could damage the eyes of the person in front of the TV. Now the first part of that statement is clearly pure nonsense, as the gun has a calibration mode (laser always on) and a game mode for the laser (where the pointer turns off when aiming beside the screen). So that means that the laserpointer is clearly intended to be left on when playing by the manufacturer EMS. However, it does not clarify if the reflection is harmful for a persons eyes. Fact is, there is a visible reflection on the wall, with my LCD reflecting less than my CRT and both less than the laser pointed directly to the wall. If anyone could tell me how strong the laser really is (in mW) it would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you very much!

I don't have the information about the power of the laser pointer (in mW) on hand. From my experience as a TopGun user, the laser pointer is as harmful as the flash light of camera. Looking at the laser pointer directly for long time, is harmful for sure. But, no one would do that for purpose. Furthermore, the laser pointer would turn off automatically if it is aimed off the screen.
Reflection of laser pointer is not harmful, unless your screen is very smooth like mirror. Even if laser pointer enters your eye accidentally, it would not be more harmful then flash light of camera.

Thank you very much for your reply and your own viewpoint on the laserpointer. Seeing that you are answering many questions for HKEMS in their official forum and you are the administrator, wouldn't it be possible for you to simply ask someone from the developers about the exact mW of the laserpointer? Just a suggestion. Greetings and thank you!
