Trio Linker Plus is a wonderful product. Works so perfectly on Windows XP. Good job ;D... BUT...
So I downloaded driver version 4.1 for 32-bit Vista; however, as has been reported in other EMS products, Vista recognizes the device as a HID-compliant device, and TrioLinker software drivers never install. In fact, there is no way I know of to make that control panel applet work. I tried updating the driver manually, tried different USB ports, rebooted, installed the EMS setup file three times -- you name it, I tried it. It just doesn't work.
At the end of the setup log there may have been a clue. The last two lines indicate some sort of failure to "self-register" EMSjoycpl.dll or something like that (Windows\system32). Hope that helps.
PLEASE fix the Vista drivers. Vista is now available and everyone is going to be using it sooner or later.
There are no error codes of any sort in Device Manager, and there are no exclamation marks.
You are correct: the HID-Compliant device shows up in Device Manager, with no errors, but that's it. No Game Controller hardware appears in Device Manager. When I go into Control Panel to "Game controllers" to configure, it doesn't show up there either. Nothing at all. Can you please tell me what is supposed to show up?
I installed as Administrator. I didn't get any UAC (user account control) prompts, so I think that part was ok. Just those lines in the install log about "can not self-register -- User Rights: Admin." See my first post.
I also tried right-clicking on the .inf file in the TrioLinker Plus directory, and that didn't work either.
Anything else you can think of that could be different in my computer versus yours? Is there a newer driver for Trio Linker Plus? I am on Vista Ultimate (RTM), build 6000.
Thanks again - looking forward to your assistance.
I am sorry for the late reply. It was our long long Chinese New Year Holiday.
Regards the (code 10) problem, it should be either the problem of the product or the computer (USB port). Please use an USB hubs or test with another computer.
Regards the vista problem, please try the following method: 1. run the setup file 2. connect the trio linker plus to PC 3. run the "driver update" under the "Start menu--> Program files--> Trio Linker Plus" 4. Go to the control panel and see if you could find the joypad.
I have just tested the Trio Linker driver again with a 100% new installed Windows Vista Ultimate (32 bit).
Here is what I have done: 1. Install the driver. (double click the setup file, click allow and ok) 2. Connect the Trio Linker Plus to PC. 3. select "Start menu --> program files --> EMS TrioLinker --> update driver" 4. Done. I could find the Trio Linker Plus in the "control panel --> game options"
Okay, I tried as you explained. Good news and bad news:
Good news first: It works! After running "Update Driver", the correct TrioLinker Plus applet shows up in Game Controllers under control panel using Windows Vista Ultimate build 6000 (RTM). I am now able to use the Arcade Stick with all my DirectX-compatible software, in joystick mode. You should really include the "Update Driver" step as part of the readme file and installation instructions.
BAD NEWS: Joy2Key DOES NOT WORK. Only Joystick/joypad configuration works - when I switch the radio button to "Joy2Key" no keyboard keystrokes are sent. This is really too bad, as "Joy2Key" is by far the best feature of your products, and for me, this is what makes your product better than your competitors.
More details: I'm using a Dreamcast Arcade Stick. When switching over to Joy2Key (so I can map keyboard controls to my stick), it simply continues to send the regular joystick commands, NOT KEYBOARD commands. This makes MAME config MUCH harder, as I now have to maintain two separate config files.
On Windows XP, Joy2Key works just fine and sends the proper keyboard controls. You should have a look at this again for Windows Vista, and fix it. I know your version 4.1 is just a beta driver, but fixing this bug could make this driver fully operational.
My test scenario: Intel USB 2.0 port Official Sega Dreamcast Arcade Stick (6 green buttons) Windows Vista Ultimate, build 6000 HKEMS TrioLinker Plus HKEMS TrioLinker Plus Driver v 4.1 for Windows Vista
Thanks for listening. Looking forward to a fix, soon.
