so... I've had this funny problem with my new PC i built to put in my MAME cab. sometimes i boot and the POST/BIOS portion of things (everything up until XP is loaded) is just slooooooooow. if i hit DEL and go into set up, the menus draw as if im on a 2400 bps modem. it's really weird. then in windows, some stuff works great (project64) but then mame will stutter and the sound will be all choppy. i've isolated the problem down to booting with the EMS top gun connected ... if i remove it while im in the bios setup, the "bios running at modem speed" stops and things return to normal... when i boot xp, mame runs fine, etc. if i connect the ems top gun AFTER xp is loaded... everything works fine. including the gun. i don't get it.... for one, i didnt even know a USB device could cause problems like this ... my limited experience coding linux drivers for the optimus mini-three did not really indicate such a thing should be happening let alone the fact i would think the bios would ignore anything that doesnt identify itself as a keyboard..... the problem is just soo strange. What do you HKS EMS people have to say about this ? Or other users ? Is it possible to update the firmware on the gun ?

We haven't heard this before, not from our staff nor from our customer. But, I notice that some of my own USB device (e.g. Creative webcam) also have this problem. I guess this may be related to the computer or the USB port. Thanks

I have the same problem, too. My PC fails booiting at all, if gun is connected. The other thing, is that the gun is not working properly at all (fails calibrating)... I am very frustrated.
And, YES, I DID EVERYTHING AS IS SUPPOSED TO BE DONE. But the gun just fails calibrating properly, i.e. i get the pointer jerk, and the cursor is way from the place i am aiming whatever i try.

doperst, for your case, please send an email to us (sales@hkems.com) We would follow your case and help you to setup the gun. In case the gun is defective, we could repair / replace for you free of charge, and you just need to pay for the postage. Thanks

Thanks. I've bought the gun at Play-asia.com, and it took 2 weeks for it to arrive in Moscow The postal payment was almost equal to the gun price Guess, shall i pay RMA postage, or just smash it against the wall? (if i fail making it work) PS. I have some Chinese TV-console, bought in late 70s, with two guns and 4 or 5 cartridges, still working perfect Those were the times people made things for ages... PPS. Sorry for being a bit too emotional, i hope we will sort it out.

Well...hmm.. seems i have got some progress... At least with GunCon2 driver i have now almost stable cursor, that is somewhat displaced from aiming point, and -wohoo!- it is displaced almost equally around the screen. I think i'm gonna try some games tonite!
EDIT: It's almost acceptible now... phew... at least gun is not faulty... I'm used to a hi-end mouse on a tweaked to 1000MHz usb port, so the accuracy of the gun makes me feel like using a com-port mouse... but it's working. good.

EMS people, have you tried the gun with a NVidia NForce chipset?

Hey metahacker, it's lanman31337 from the forums. I'm going to have my guns tomorrow, maybe this weekend i'll have a chance to check it out. I have multiple computers to try, my MAME box is an Nvidia chipset, my regular PC is a VIA, and my laptop and wife's computer are Intel chipsets.
Are you running it directly thru a USB port on the motherboard, or a USB hub?
