guys,

you made me reaaaally happy with this post :) I was breaking my neck over how to migrate to Windows 7 64bit but still use your gun. Spent hours researching etc :) I was about to have xp 32bit on another partition, now, I can happily forget about that horror. I will let you know how installation did go in a couple of next weeks.

Thanks!

It works !!! 8-)

I am using win7 64, EMS TopGun 2.

Well, you have to use the following program to fix the driver signature matter.

Hi there,

The driver works great! I didn't notice any differences between how it works on 32bit XP and Win7 64bit. Area51 and Duck Hunt work great. Great job guys!

NOTE: you must use DSEO to install this. That’s not such a big issue, because there are plenty of other drivers that need it anyway.

There are couple of problems I encounter with both this driver and official driver for XP:

1. Precision: no matter how hard I try callibrating, the gun is imprecise away from center of the screen and is especially bad near corners. I know there’s a way to fine tune that by entering those magic values, but a guide on how to do that will be appreciated.

2. MAME: I plug my gun to play and unplug it when done. The biggest issue I face is button mapping. Randomly, one of the buttons is unmappable. Sometimes it is start, sometimes A sometimes B button, sometimes select button. I click the button but nothing happens. (try it, enter Input (This Game) and try to map all gun buttons, it won’t work). Everything else works.

3. MAME: I plug my gun to play and unplug it when done. Sometimes my gun is detected as GUNCODE_2_ sometimes as GUNCODE_3_ device. Thus, in order to play I have to mess with .cfg`s for my games, which is frustrating.

4. D-Pad is not mappable to keys in TopGun control panel.

Thanks!
Vytas

Well, there is no guide for the fine tune function, as it could only be done by try and error. Anyway, the default value works well for most of the case.

(try it, enter Input (This Game) and try to map all gun buttons, it won’t work). Everything else works.

This could be fixed by setting the values in "TopGunPanel.exe" to default.

In the "TopGunPanel.exe", there are 3 main pages. In each page, you should click "default" and then "submit" so as to enable the default value for each page.

** Please note that after your first installation of the gun, the values are not default. **

This problem is not related to the driver. This is related to the device ID recognized by PC. For example, you plug gun A and gun B to PC, and then reboot PC. Sometimes gun A would get ID 1, and gun B would get ID 2, and sometimes vise versa. (same case as if you plug two mouse to PC) There is no way to fix such problem.

4. D-Pad is not mappable to keys in TopGun control panel.

With the TopGun driver installed, TopGun would be recognized by PC as a common mouse.

There are 10 buttons on TopGun.
A, B, C, D, SE/BA, START, D-pad (up/down/left/right)
**D = trigger **

Mouse could have at most 6 buttons.
button 1, button 2, button 3, button 4, button 5, wheel up/down
**left click = button 1, right click = button 2 **

In "TopGunPanel.exe", there are two key mappings.
i ) Button Mapping
- key mapping between TopGun buttons and mouse buttons.
ii) Key Mapping
- key mapping between mouse buttons and keyboard keys.

Please see the example below:

In "Button Mapping", set TopGun buttons as follows.
- set D-Pad (up) to button 1
- set D-Pad (down) to button 2
- set D-Pad (left) to button 1
- submit setting

** default value of D-Pad buttons are "disable". **

In "Key Mapping", set mouse buttons as follows.
- set button 1 to "X".
- set button 2 to "Z".
- submit setting

Now, here are the results:

when you press D-pad (up), computer would recognize the following two inputs at the same time.
i ) mouse button 1 (i.e. mouse left click)
ii ) keyboard key "X"

when you press D-pad (left), computer would recognize the following two inputs at the same time.
i ) mouse button 1 (i.e. mouse left click)
ii ) keyboard key "X"

when you press D-pad (down), computer would recognize the following two inputs at the same time.
i ) mouse button 2 (i.e. mouse right click)
ii ) keyboard key "Z"

As you see, above is how you could map TopGun buttons to keyboad keys.

I am sorry that it may be too complicate. If you have any problem, you may post here or email to us at sales@hkems.com. ;)

I appreciate your detailed response. I'll try it out. I am especially interested in solution to problem 2) and hence, have a quick question: should I apply mapping defaults in TopGunPanel every time I reconnect my gun? Every time I restart system?

Thanks!

If you reconnect it to the same USB port, even if you re-boot your PC, you don't need to set it again. :)

A new Topgun 2 comes to my door today so lets test it :-)

- Win XP 64 bit works (gun detected, driver installed, directions checked, all the buttons pressed in the control panel) By the way, is any difference between the two drivers? Both works under Win XP 64 bit.

- MameUI 64 0.136 works 100%.

Not at all.

Windows 7 64 tested with the W7 64 Topgun driver, also works. (Movement, panel, mameui64)

The installation was tricky (described in upper posts), I dont know it's good or not for the other users. For me, either. If need it I do it.

Hello eveyone,
I recieved my ems topgun2 a couple of days ago. No problem in installing the win7 x64 driver and calibration seems to work as does the recoil function. I'm trying to set it up for mameUI64 136 but nothing seems to work. I followed the directions in this thread but with no results. The button mapping is working in the topgunpanel but that's it.

Can someone help me?

Thank you very much
